My interview

This is the original copy of my interview. I have edited it and converted it to black and white, cropped myself out from the corner, and added in images of old marriage and birth certificates.. however blogger refused to save it and I forgot this happened, went to write it up at home and have nothing to write up!
I shall add on my final copy after half term as it is on the college computers.

I am really happy with how my interview went, I had already given my nan an idea on the questions I was going to ask so she was able to talk confidently about herself as she had had time to prepare. I like how close up you are to my nan so it feels a lot more personal. The location provided a really good background as it was very simple and undistracting, but let the viewer see we were in her home, and that too added to the personal atmosphere. The sound and image is very clear, and it is very steady as I used a tripod.

To edit my video, I first put it into iMovie, where I cropped myself out from the corner as I realised I was in the frame when we were half way through and knew I would be able to fix this later. I then cropped the beginning and end of the film to cut out any blank time and movement turning the camera on/off. After the film was as I wanted it, I converted it to black and white to give it an older feel, and I'm really happy with the effect is has had. It feels like you are reliving her memories with her, as black and white is an effect which generally links with older movies.

I then wanted to add in images I had taken of old marriage and birth certificates my nan had, but wanted to keep the voice going over. To do this I tried to load Final Cut Pro.. I spent all day loading the software, importing my film and rendering it.. literally all day, so by the time I could work on it I had to go home! (and I started first thing in the morning, might I add!) Next time I felt confident enough with my images to spend time on my film, I loaded it into iMovie again, and added titles images and transitions.

We discovered how to get the voices going while the images showed up, but I just didn't have enough time to do it, as nearly everything that could go wrong in this assignment did, so I chose to keep it simple and focus on my images. I am still very happy with my video interview, it looks clear and attractive, and gave me all the information I needed to create pictures I am completely happy with :)
